Endodontic treatment of a tooth is a dental procedure aimed at the prophylaxis and treatment of the periapical tissues inflammation. The aim of this treatment is to save a tooth with pulp affected by infection.
Damage to the dental pulp can occur mechanically, chemically, thermally or as a result of the spread of the carious process, which leads to pathological inflammatory changes. This condition is known as pulpitis. If pulpitis is not treated, it can progress to deeper stages, up to complete necrosis of the pulp (dead tooth). Subsequently, the infection can also affect the periapical tissues and cause inflammation in the periapical tissues (in the bone surrounding the tooth roots). Endodontic treatment effectively solves these problems.
Endodontics is time-consuming, equipment-intensive and precise. This procedure requires the use of specialized equipment and the experience of the dentist. Patients should expect a longer treatment period, which may include multiple visits.
The steps of endodontic treatment:
Endodontic treatment begins with the removal of all decay, old fillings and restorations. Then, the tooth is carefully prepared for the next phase, which includes opening the root system, determining the working length, and mechanical and medicinal treatment of the root canals. After thorough cleaning and disinfection, the root system is obturated with a special filling material that prevents the penetration of bacteria and the spread of infection.
After the endodontic treatment is completed, we recommend prosthetic tooth restoration, the type of which depends on the amount of preserved tooth tissues. If the tooth is not sufficiently protected, there is a risk of its fracture, which may even lead to extraction.
In our practice, we emphasize quality and precision. We use modern methods such as a dental operating microscope, single-use rotary nickel-titanium instruments, ultrasonic tips and a rubber dam for working field isolation. The entire treatment process is carefully monitored using digital X-rays, ensuring maximum accuracy and effectiveness of the treatment.
